In spite of strict laws and better 

enforcement, women continue to 

become rape victims at an

alarming rate.

Statistics show that one of out every five women on college campuses will be sexually assaulted during her time as a student.  This startling fact comes from research funded by the U.S. Department Justice.

Federal law is adamant:  colleges and universities are to be help legally accountable for taking decisive action against men who commit campus rape.  But, out of 130 schools enrolled in a program to curtail this outrage, less than 25% of the men accused of rape have been expelled.

Professors in The Women's College's Rape and Violence Against Women Program report that as many as 80% of the victims fail to report their assaults...largely because they have no confidence that authorities will take any meaningful action.

Many rapes are alcohol-related, or date-rape drugs (such as ecstasy, Rohypnol, etc.).  And, most victims know their perpetrators.   

Yet, rape and sexual assault, stalking, sexual harassment, and violence remains at epidemic proportions.  In spite of domestic violence protective orders, sexual predators lurk, commit heinous crimes, and continue free to violate women again. 

This is why we have a program designed to heighten awarness of the problem and to teach women how they can take proactive steps to protect themselves and, at the same time, to develop the skill sets needed to eradicate the behavior.

Enrollment in The Women's College's Rape and Violence Against Women Program is open to masters and doctoral level students majoring in social work, counseling, women's studies, divinity, and spiritual family counseling.

Special Note - Researchers Needed:

The Women's College is also seeking graduate-level students wishing to participate in a national survey to explore the incidence of marital rape, domestic violence, and verbal abuse in families where the man is a professed Christian, Jew, Moslem, or other person who portrays himself as being "a good, religious man."

An earlier sampling indicated that there may be a higher prevalence of abuse against women in homes that report themselves to be "religious" than in secular homes.  Being a seminary program, we are of course interested in compiling data in this arena.  You could be involved in publishable ground-breaking research.
