Questions that YOU may have about The Women's College:
There are "women's colleges" that are portions of
larger universities. Many are almost "departments" within these schools. They are not independent, stand-alone, colleges in their own right. Some of these programs are truly exemplary. Most, however, are primarily liberal arts colleges that offer standard coursework in a setting where no male students are admitted.
And, at most "women's colleges," up to 45% of the teaching staff is MEN!
The Women's College, on the other hand, is a stand-alone school founded by women to serve women and to teach lessons that have been designed to address issues from women's points of view. To our knowledge, we are the only school that fits this description.
No. And yes. The Women's College enrolls women who are ready to immerse themselves in a learning experience by studying lessons that have been written for them. Our course materials have been created by a team of educators who have "been
there". Some were present at the the beginning of the Feminist Movement and watched it mature and grow into a world where women have more rights, are taken more seriously, and are challenging the Glass Ceiling that still holds women back from the highest and most powerful positions. Our curricula have been designed by professors and administrators who have worked in fields such as women's empowerment, career training, domestic violence and abuse, emotional distress, and mental challenges.
Some of our students are professional women, some are victims of evaporating jobs as the economy collapsed, some desire to embark on entirely new careers, and others are older learners who had to curtail college studies earlier in life are now determined to earn an academic certificate or degree. Some are called to be social worker administrators, some seek MBAs, some are answering a call to service as ordained ministers, Hospice or prison chaplains, or as Certified Grief workers.
Defining a "typical" student at The Women's College is a daunting task. They come to us with diverse backgrounds and with their own particular goals. But, one thing that all have in common is that they seek a program of study that honors the wonderful emotional, organizational, relationship skills, spiritual, and intellectual gifts that are unique to women!
The Women's College offers an exciting online program that is self-paced. You can apply at any time that's convenient for you and you lessons can begin as soon as registration is completed. The only limitation is that administrative personnel can be unavailable during major holidays, long weekends, etc.
The Women's College (and an increasing number of other schools) offers Degree programs such as Bachelors, Masters, and Doctorates. These are clearly understood. However, The Women's College also provides students the opportunity to study subjects of interest that award Certificates of Excellence. Similar to Continuing Education programs, these demonstrate a level of professional expertise that may prove useful for career validation or advancement. Diplomas are awarded to graduates. (Examples: Paralegal studies, Ordination, Certified Chaplain, Certified Grief worker, Counseling Tech, etc.)
Absolutely! Because our online Adult Learner program offers qualified students the Fast-Track option, each student's curriculum will vary slightly from others'. However, Admissions is very happy to send you a sample listing of courses that are offered in your desired major. Please simply email your request to: admin@thewomenscollege.org
Yes. To get started, there is a simple no-obligation form on the APPLICATION page. It will also assist us in providing you with the relevant information that you may require if you are able to ATTACH a resume and send it to The Women's College admissions office. You can do this by separate email or right at the Application itself.
SAMPLE: An Adult Learner Fast-Track Lesson for Counseling Majors from: THE WOMEN’S COLLEGE SCM - MODULE 107 - Client ConfidentialityToday's lesson is an important examination of the complex issue of our responsibility not to reveal private information about our clients, customers, or patients. Even if a court demands that we turn over certain files, clients are protected by law from this invasion of their privacy under many circumstances. In this lesson, we will discuss when we can...and can not...comply with requests to give out information that our clients confided to us with an expectation of confidentiality.... |
Our FAST-TRACK Program is a copy written option that is offered to applicants in our online Adult-Learner series, based on previous real-life experience and academic background. If you qualify, you will be admitted to the FAST-TRACK Program's "challenge course" option. Each lesson would be about ten pages if printed and benchmarks the knowledge you already possess on the topic based on your past learning. To most students, these will appear to be almost review-type lessons. This program permits online adult distance learning students to earn their degrees or certificates much more rapidly than at a conventional college.
The Women's College is, to our understanding, one of only three colleges in the U.S. that offer such an innovate program for online adult learners. The other two are The Empire College of the State University of New York system, and our sister co-ed school and seminary, Saint James College. Here, students are able to bring in the knowledge that they have gained over the course of their previous academic and working lives and "challenge" a subject. By demonstrating competence in that particular topic (say, professional ethics), they are able to move directly on to the next lesson in their curriculum rather than having to spend an entire semester re-studying a topic with which they are highly familiar.
Truly, it all depends on you. Our online Adult-Learner Fast-Track programs are all self-paced. When you send in your homework from your current lesson, your faculty mentor will make helpful comments and send your next lesson by return email. (Usually, this happens within one day, the exceptions being national holidays and weekends.) Certificate programs can often be completed in a month whereas some students take 6-months. Degrees can often be earned in 6-month for bachelors students, and 6-months to a year for masters students. Some well prepared and well organized students complete their programs faster than these estimates, others take longer. It depends on the pacing you choose.
Some online college degree and certificate studies are "operated" strictly by computer. That is, your homework is "graded" by computer and you never speak with a live person. The Women's College is not automated, however! Each student is assigned a faculty mentor with whom to work. This person will review each of your lessons as it is sent in and will make appropriate comments and suggestions...and they will send your next lesson to your email box. Usually, this happens in one day.
We believe that The Women's College has the lowest tuition rate of any college or seminary program in the United States. As with any college or university, The Women's College's tuition rates vary according to your choice of program. Some Certificate programs such as "Entry-level Chaplain Certification" studies cost only $250. Bachelors degrees can range from $1,200 to $2,500 in the Fast-Track Program, depending on the amount of background you bring to the college. Some advanced degrees (masters and doctorates) can run as high as nine or ten thousand. However, since almost all students enrolling at this level have considerable past real-life professional and academic experience, the typical tuition for advanced degrees ends up being below $5,000. We never charge students to repeat lessons that they have competed elsewhere, or that they don't need because of their professional competence. This permits our not-for-profit college to save on administrative costs and billable faculty hours...and these savings are passed on to you in the form of reduced tuitions.
Yes, in two forms:
1) Being a not-for-profit college and seminary, we are able to offer students an interest-free tuition financing program. With an initial tuition payment of one-quarter to one-third of the total tuition, we are able to offer the option of making affordable monthly student loan payments at 0% interest. The only knowledge is that, like all schools, any outstanding indebtedness must be satisfied prior to your diploma being conferred.
2) We do have some scholarship funding available but this varies according to the amount of donations and endowment at any given time.
We will always work with prospective students, however, as it is our mission to provide world-class education in the area of women's studies to any and all who seek to improve themselves.
No! Never! Here are some of the hidden costs that many schools slip in that add to their original quote:
With The Women's College, the rate you are quoted is the only fee that you will be charged. Ever.
Typically, you will receive your diploma(s) and also a Letter of Introduction from our administration proving that you are a graduate in good standing. For degree programs, you will receive a transcript if you need it, although most online Adult Learner Fast-Track degree studies are pass-fail and no transcript is required. Certificate graduates in fields such as Certified Chaplain and Ordination online studies also receive a Photo ID badge as these are often required when visiting hospitals, jails, or the scenes of accidents.
No. Because we are chartered to provide instruction not only in the United States and Canada, but throughout the world, most of our online degree and certificate students live so far away that it is not practical for them to travel to our administrative offices to receive a degree in person. Diplomas and other graduation documents are placed in secure packaging and sent by postal service.

Looking at these realities, our board of trustees elected to sell our buildings and beautiful grounds in 2009 and to concentrate on what we do best and what we are famous for: Adult Learner Online Education for degrees and certificate programs.
Our roots go back to 1990 with the founding of The Learning Center, an educational program with a focus on social work, psychological and spiritual counseling, and mind-body medicine.
We are accredited as a college-seminary program. Accreditation is not a relevant issue in online Certification study programs. In fact, we accredit ordination and chaplaincy graduates...our students obtain their accreditation from us, much as degree program graduates obtain their college degrees from us. Nonetheless, there is a significant matter to discuss when it comes to Adult Learner Online Degree distance learner education. The Women's College is a seminary school and, as such, is ecclesiastically accredited where as secular schools are regionally accredited. Please be certain to visit the link above and read the details.
FAST-TRACK Program is a copy written option that is offered by The Women's College. www.thewomen'scollege.org
Do you offer
non-seminary courses such as an MBA?
We offer studies in programs such as Bachelor and Master of Business Administration. However, because we are chartered as a seminary, by law, our lessons must have a strong spiritual component. While we are non-denominational and inter-faith in nature, we are nonetheless owned by the fully-chartered Love Church Worldwide. TLC is an inclusive church whose mission strongly advocates for educational programming. Unlike most colleges and universities owned by religions, we do not ever try to convince our students to leave their current religious or cultural institutions. We are truly inter-faith and people from all religious persuasions are welcome. They do not get pushed to believe our doctrine.
How do I pay my tuition?
For many years, we resisted accepting credit and debit cards because we thought that the practice was "unseemly" for a legitimate not-for-profit online distance learning college or university to do so. However, "the times" changed and today people routinely make their mortage, utility, insurance payments, etc., online with debit and credit cards. A few years ago, we began offering the same option. This is particularly important for students in Third World countries where regular postal service is unheard of or is so unreliable that sending checks is impossible. For assistance in making your payment online, please email Administration at:
You have mentioned that you are a not-for-profit college. Isn't this true for all colleges and universities?
No, today, many colleges are for-profit businesses. Examples include Phoenix and Keiser University (which is actually owned by a division of The Washington Post company). Being not-for-profit, we have no stockholders to pay, no annual premiums on stocks or investment, which means that we are able to offer low tuitions. Our mission requires that we strive to offer the lowest tuitions possible, lower even than many competing colleges and universities.
Are there special rates for international students?
Our trustees are aware of the exchange rate challenges faced by many international students. For example, while even ordinary Americans may earn $50,000 - $100,000 or more, the average citizen of Kenya may only earn an equivalent of $400 U.S. Dollars. We adjust international tuitions so that they have the same impact on those nations' citizens as would be felt by Americans. We do this by converting our U.S. Dollar rate into the local currency of our students.
Do I have to prove proficiency in English?
This is a frequent question and the answer is, yes.
While we are happy to work with students for whom English is a second language, we teach only in English. Our faculty, however, is very willing to make generous allowances for students whose grasp of English usage and grammar may be colored by the dialect that is common to their native land. Our mission is to ensure that our online adult distance learner degree and certificate graduates have a firm understanding of the topic of their majors. American, Canadian, United Kingdom, Asian, African, even former Soviet nations' English usage varies so much that we do not take off credit for regionalisms.
I am already a student at your sister school, Saint James College...or a seminarian at your Center for Ministerial Studies...or The American Chaplain Training Institute. I want to change to The Women's College. Is this possible?
Absolutely. Contact your Faculty Mentor or email us here at Administration and we will be happy to assist you. There is typically no fee for this kind of transfer (except that you may be transferring into a more expensive program and would of course be expected to pay the usual tuition for that school or program). There would never be a "transfer" fee.
When I graduate, will you be able to give me any career advice or assistance?
Yes. While we are a college and not an employment recruiter, we will do everything in our power to assist you with your job search, or in achieving the promotion you so much desire. If you wish to share the name of the person with whom you are interviewing, we will write to her or him personally to vouch that you have completed our program. We will even call that person to support your employment candidacy if that will be helpful to you. At The Women's College, you don't just get your diploma and then disappear from our minds.
I am a disabled person and am wondering what provisions you can make to assist me with my studies.
Since the online Adult Learner degree and certificate studies are handled by email, we are limited in our ability to help. However, here are some things that we have done to assist other students with special needs:
Some students have had strokes or suffered traumatic brain injuries and have had extreme difficulty typing and writing. To help in these situations, we provided telephone contact with the students' faculty mentor. This included both lesson review as well as giving the person with special needs the opportunity to do "orals" in order to fulfill dissertation and thesis requirements.
I am interested in obtaining a nursing degree. Can you help me?
Possibly. We offer BSN-Administration and MSN-Administration degree studies. However, we cannot assist you in obtaining your actual RN license. Firstly, our trustees are adamantly opposed to trying to teach clinical skills online. You need to attend labs and practica. We cannot understand how some schools purport to accomplish these online. We simply will not. Also, our ecclesiastic accreditation permits us to award certificates and degrees but, for government issued licenses such as nursing, certified social worker, etc., you would normally have to graduate from a school that is regionally accredited.
Can I work on a double degree or certificate?
In view of the melting ice caps and flooding theYes, in fact, many students choose this option. The Women's College as a matter of policy attempts to dovetail as many courses as possible in order to have the requirements for one major satisfy the requirements of the other degree or certificate study. Not only does this reduce the amount of class work required, combining studies also lowers over all tuition because fewer faculty hours will be required.
Gulf of Mexico with the BP oil slick, I am feeling the need to work to save our planet. Can you help? Certainly. Students at The Women's College may study our Department of Environmental Sciences. This program is
unique in that it teaches students how to organize responsible, ethical, and effective environmental initiatives. Certificate and Degree graduates will learn how to cut through government red tape and begin taking immediate steps to preserve and rejuvenate our planet...including setting up new agencies to preserve large tracks of endangered territory.
My career been exported overseas and my options are now limited in the U.S. I am going to become an entrepreneur. Can I gain necessary skills here?
I live in the United States but am interested in studying abroad. Is this possible through The Women's College?Absolutely. The Women's College offers proven training for women wishing to found their own businesses. Students at the Center for Entrepreneurial Excellence are offered a series of professional proficiency and "psychological readiness" assessment tools to help determine individual likelihood of success. Then, we offer a wide-ranging series of powerful lessons that impart practical, hands-on, skill sets, including effective and affordable marketing, financing, time management, and out-of-home or home office productivity. If you are considering starting your own business or service agency, this Women's College option may help you positively change your life forever!
Absolutely. With The Women's College, you can study overseas...or help an overseas project from here at home! We are participants
in a project to build an orphanage in Kenya for children whose parents have died from AIDS. And, we are sponsors of African children who are trying to either attend professional schools, or even simply to finish high school (for which they have to pay fees that they cannot afford). Women's College students have the opportunity to work on these projects, if they so desire.
Other options include working on the revamping of the war-torn educational system in Nicaragua, helping in rural Haitian communities following that nation's devastating earthquake. Students are welcome to present the administration with other suggestions regarding overseas projects.
We are always excited when we are able to simultaneously provide an educational experience and, at the same time, participate in projects that help to improve the lives of people and communities.
Do you accept transfer credits from other colleges and universities?
Yes, we gladly accept credits
from other institutions of higher education. In fact, The Women's College's board of trustees is so committed to women's education, that we accept college credit earned at any time in life. We recognize that many women have in the past interrupted their college studies in order to raise families...or support their husband's careers. Most universities will not accept any "old credits" that were earned ten or more years in the past. The Women's College WILL, no matter how long ago you went to school!
